Moe Closs retired from Chrysler on December 31st, 1989 after more than 46 years in the automotive industry. He was born in Toronto, educated in Oshawa and Cobourg and began his career with another prominent Canadian auto manufacturer in 1943. He attended General Motors Institute and Wayne State University in the United States, and Queens University and University of Western Ontario in Canada.
He joined the Parts Division of Chrysler Canada in 1959 and the following year was appointed Director of Parts Marketing. In 1974, Mr Closs became Vice President Marketing for the Company and joined Chrysler Canada’s Board of Directors. In 1979 he was made Staff Executive for U.S. Automotive Sales and Marketing at Chrysler Corporation in Detroit.
Mr Closs returned to Chrysler Canada as Executive Vice-President in 1980. He was elected President and Chief Executive Officer on July 8th, 1980 and a Vice President of Chrysler Corporation in 1981.
Moe Closs was honoured as B’nai Brith Man of the Year in 1987 and received an Honourary Doctor of Laws degree from University of Windsor in 1989. He was appointed Honourary Colonel, 21 (Windsor) Service Battalion, Canadian Army , the same year. Mr Closs and his wife, Miki, reside in Windsor.
