Marvin G. Back 

Major General Marvin G. Back, Former Commanding General 123d United States Army Reserve Command.

Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, MG Back graduated from Lakeview high School in Battle Creek and achieved degrees from Kellogg Community College and Northwood Institute.
 
He began his military service as an enlisted service member in 1956 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After two years in a variety of technical and administrative jobs, General Back joined the United States Army reserve where he was promoted to Sergeant First Class prior to attending Officer Candidate School. As an officer, he served with the Michigan National Guard and in a variety of assignments with the 70th Division (Training), rising to the post of Commanding General.

General Back graduated from three Officer Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College and the Air War College. He has also served on the Army Reserve Forces Policy Committee, the Bold Shift Task Force and the USAR Long Range Planning Steering Committee.

While in his most recent Appointment, General Back served for over six months in key assignments for Operation Desert Storm. He was succeeded as Commander of the 123rd USARCOM on 22 April by BG Steve Repichowski
