L.E. Murray, CMM CD
Commodore Murray, born in Stratford, Ontario, became a Royal Canadian Naval officer cadet in 1964. Following graduation and pre-flight training, he joined HMCS Fraser in Halifax in 1968.

In 1971, he was appointed Executive Officer to HMCS Cowichan and the next year became navigation instructor for Fleet School Esquimalt, B.C. Following two years as Navigation and Operations Officer of HMCS Provider, Murray commanded both the Chaleur and the Miramichi. He later served as Combat Officer of HMCS Algonquin before completing the Canadian Forces Staff College in 1980.

After a tour as Executive Officer of HMCS Athabaskan, Murray served in Maritime Command Headquarters prior to assuming command of HMCS Iroquois in 1983. He was promoted to Captain in 1985 and became Commander, First Canadian Destroyer Squadron in 1987. Captain Murray was promoted to Commodore in 1988 and assumed his present position last year.

Commodore Murray resides in Ottawa with his wife, Susan Ann, and their four children.
